Chouette rules
Chouette is a form of backgammon for more than two players. Chouettes offer many advantages over one-on-one play in a club situation. They are fun, sociable, and exciting. And it is easy for players to join a game or take a brief break when they want to.
In chouette, One of the players is the "Box" and plays against the rest of the group on a single board.
Another player is the "Captain" of the group, who throws the dice and makes the moves for the group playing against the box.
If the Box wins, the Captain goes to the back of the line and the next player becomes the Captain of the team. If the Captain wins, he becomes the new Box, and the old Box goes to the end of the line.
The rules regarding the ability of the group to consult with the Captain changes from version to version. In some versions of the Chouette the group can freely give advice to the Captain, and in other versions, consulting is strictly prohibited. The compromised version is the most popular and offers consulting only after the dice have been thrown.
In chouette, there are different options regarding the doubling cube:
Playing with single doubling cube In a single-cube game, the only decision that the members of the team make individually concerns takes. If the box doubles, each team member can decide on his own if he wants to play or to drop out. Those who drop out each pay off to the box and no longer participate as team advisers. If the captain drops out while there are others on the team who wish to play on, one of the active players become the captain and the old captain drops to the bottom of the rotation.
Playing with a doubling cube for every team member Most chouettes today managed this way. The box can double the team members, and each team member can decide whether and when to double the box.
