Backgammon Tips

When you have less pips remaining to win the game prefer more offensive play than normal. Try to rush for your homebase.
Consider racing especially when you got past your opponent's checkers.

Other wise, if you get far behind, try to interrupt your opponent, and play backgame.
Try hitting him and blocking him near your homebase.
Also try to get hit yourself, to scatter your checkers efficiently inside your opponent's homebase.

Make points of less then four checkers.
While making points of three checkers is a clever tactic when you are in need of moving a checker off a point, four checkers or more reducing your number of potential points, and narrowing your options to move in your turn.

If you are going to lose a gammon, try to get as many checkers as possible into your home board, in every turn. Don't think about organizing them better in your homebase, cause this way you want use your movement best.
Anyway, it always batter to bear checkers off rather then moving them to a lower point.

Don't go for a backgame from the beginning of the game. backgame is the least sure way to win, in particular when playing against experienced players.

If you have some of your opponent’s checkers at your home board, prefer to secure more points then to hit more of his checkers, so that he wont be able to gain an advantage from his backgame.

When bearing off while your opponent has checker/s on your home board, keep an even number on your highest point so that you won’t get caught with an unsecured point if you roll a high double.

prevent the escape of the opponent's checkers from your home board,by placing checkers along your outer base without gaps. then, if the opponent's checkers will be hit by you, they will have hard time escaping your homebase. you can make their escape impossible If you build a 'prime' blockade (six no-gaps checkers in a row)

It is usually more valuable to hit the most advanced of enemy checkers. However, think hard before hitting enemy blots. sometimes the CONs are bigger than the PROs. try hitting your opponent's checkers only when it is advantageous to do so. you should not hit in the case your opponent already has some checkers on the bar and you can establish another valuable point if you do not hit.
